Looking forward to looking back

For any followers in Southwest Florida who haven't heard, I wanted to let you know that the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in downtown Fort Myers is hosting a Jazz in the Key of Light retrospective of my 30-plus years of music photography in its Grand Atrium gallery for most of November.

The show opens with an evening reception on Friday, November 2, from 6 to 10 p.m., as part of the city's ArtsWalk. The exhibit runs through Monday, November 19.

This is an opportunity to check out a wide range of images of jazz greats - with a couple of blues artists added for good measure. Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Dr. John, Pat Martino, Wycliffe Gordon, Veronica Swift, Sarah Vaughan, Cassandra Wilson and local favorites Lew Del Gatto, Dan Miller and Danny Sinoff are among the many who will be featured .

Joe Delaney
One segment underscores the musical essence of New Orleans. Many other images are from the Newport Jazz Festival, which I've been documenting since 1981.

Pianist Joe Delaney will be featured at the grand piano on Friday evening, perhaps with a little help from his friends.
New Orleans #1

Stop by, enjoy some nibbles, a lot of art, the cash bar - and even an opportunity to to peruse and a purchase my coffee-table art book (just in time for holiday gifting). I'll be happy to sign and inscribe it.

SBDAC is at 2301 First Street in Fort Myers. Call 239-333-1933 for gallery information.
